The United States on Wednesday imposed new restrictive measures against Cuba in an effort to further deprive Havana of its sources of income.

The new measures will prohibit US citizens from "staying at certain properties in Cuba, importing alcohol and tobacco of Cuban origin, organizing or attending professional meetings or conferences in Cuba, and 'organize or participate in certain public performances, clinics, workshops, contests and exhibitions in Cuba,' the Treasury Department said in a statement.

US President Donald Trump first announced the measures during his speech on Wednesday in honor of Bay of Pigs veterans.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Tuesday condemned Washington's escalating economic blockade against Cuba during his video address to the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
